FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why should I digitize my audio and video?

CDs and DVDs last, analog audio and video (cassettes, reels, etc.) deteriorate. Find the CD track you want fast without rewinding.

Storing recorded media is easier with digital files: copy your newly digitized files from cds to your computer or get them directly in the format of your choice.

Can't I convert these recordings myself?

There are people who digitize their own recordings with run-of-the-mill equipment and little undertanding of the digitizing process. Of course, this route yields mediocre results at best. Digitize-It! uses professional decks and high-end digital-audio gear that bypasses the soundcard in a common computer. We are set up for digitizing audio and it shows in the quality of our product. So if you have unique recordings or your recordings contain sensitive information, the Audio Archive Specialists are an invaluable resource!

Do the CDs/DVDs come out as good as the originals?

All media is transferred on high-end audio and video gear at super-standard bitrates. This more than adequately maintains the integrity of the source media so that your cds/dvds sound/ look as good as the originals. Keep in mind, the quality of the final product depends largely on the condition of the original.Noise reduction, advanced restoration, and mastering of your recordings are also available.

How long does it take to digitize my recordings?

The turnaround time depends upon the size of the order, the number of orders in cue, and if rush return service is selected. Most orders are returned within two weeks. An order may be expedited for an additional fee.

Can I get my recordings on DVD instead of CD?

We can transfer virtually any recorded media format to any other format. Based on your needs, we can suggest an appropriate delivery format. Choose from CD, Archival Gold CD, DVD, mp3, Internal Hard Drive, and External USB 2.0 Hard Drive. Choose from WAV, AIFF, MP3, QuickTime, AVI and many other formats on the media of your choice.

Can I download my files when they are done?

Yes. You can even request a short sample for download before you order. Once your order is complete, you will be able to login to our ftp server and download your files.

Can you clean up my recordings?

Digitize-it! can reduce or remove backgournd hiss, clicks, pops and other age noises on audio recordings and do basic restoration on videos.

What about volume discounts?

Larger orders will receive a discount according to the size of the order, beginning with 10. See our pricing structure for specific price breaks.

Is digitizing tapes legal?

Digitizing cassettes is legal if you own the recording (a high school demo, a family interview).  It may be permissible under certain circumstances to make a backup copy of a copyrighted recording.  If you have questions, check the copyright law-17, UCS 107- and consult an attorney.  By placing an order with Digitize-It!, you agree to the terms and conditions of service.

Are the CDs separated into tracks?

Yes, the great thing about digital is your ability to reference the section of the CD that you want!  Tracks are created at points of low volume or every five minutes.  Tracks do not impact the sound and the CD will play back uninterrupted.
